The 5th studio album, “Original NZ Folk Gospel & Blues” by Mike Mckendry, has taken an unusual turn. The compilation itself features songs, scattered along a time-line that has the chronological components mixed together. That timeline started in 1989, to some degree, but features songs written around 1990 by Mike, and recent ones like “I Lay Down”, “Face To Face”, recorded 2017.
When Mike first released this compilation, prior to a change in heart, felt he may have not have wanted to allow older works to re-surface. But in the album booklet, mentions about putting the warts and all out there, and juxtapositioning them alongside his later more deeper work. In that way people can get an honest overview of my songwriting history, and how it has evolved to where I am now in life.
